Based in the firm's London office, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a creative and proactive Communications Manager to join a leading international law firm. Reporting to the Director of Public Relations and guided by department objectives and priorities, the Communications Manager will be responsible for further increasing the firm’s visibility in the UK and driving forward strategic internal communications initiatives spanning London and Europe. You will participate in the firm’s public relations strategic development and planning with a focus on the UK. You will need to develop and cultivate relationships with appropriate press contacts and will be responsible for obtaining placements in UK and European media outlets that will raise the visibility of the firm and its practice areas and partners. The role holder must also develop effective relationships with managing partners and partners, earning their trust and respect, and will prepare partners for media interviews, actively participating in meetings with key journalists. Interfacing with Business Development colleagues and partners to identify industry trends and newsworthy client work, you will write communications materials such as press releases, media pitches, by-line article abstracts, pre-briefing documents and social media posts and analyse and report back on results of PR plans and campaigns, using the information to determine appropriate strategic adjustments. The successful candidate will drive the London office internal communications programme forward, drafting and managing regular internal communications, and will support the Europe Managing Partner with key internal communications initiatives, including Europe-wide town halls. Working closely with the Global Awards & Rankings Manager and London Business Development team to prepare UK and select Europe-wide award submissions and coordinating content for external legal surveys will also represent a key element of this varied and challenging role. The ideal candidate will be a bright graduate or equivalent with extensive relevant external and internal communications experience, knowledge, skills and abilities gained whilst working in a professional services organisation, preferably within an international law firm, or on the agency side. It is essential that applicants for the role of Communications Manager have existing media relationships, can demonstrate success in developing and executing communications plans and possess proven experience of social media, awards and surveys. A confident and positive self-starter, with a strong news sense and understanding of what it takes to generate impactful media coverage, you will possess excellent written and verbal communications skills and be comfortable interacting with and counselling managing partners, partners and senior-level employees.
