Based in either London, Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds, one of the largest full service law firms in the world is looking for a highly experienced Global Marketing & Business Development Lead, to provide support to their Energy sector dealing with some of the world's top businesses and working alongside some of the world's leading lawyers. This will be a highly rewarding role for applicants who have a passion for the Energy market and will provide the opportunity to be involved in strategic work that is capable of transforming economies, and in particular delivering practical solutions to address climate change. The firm's Business Development and Marketing team is a collegiate, international and client-focused team that encourages innovation and commerciality. It is highly valued by the partnership, and works in a collaborative way with the business in supporting the firm’s global growth. The firm has placed sectors as the central pillar of its global marketing strategy, priority sectors being Consumer, Industrials, Government & Infrastructure, Energy, Financial Services, Health & Lifesciences and Technology Media & Telecoms. Energy is one of the largest sectors in the firm globally, and so this role offers the chance to lead the business development activities for a strategically important market. The sector focuses on a diversified energy mix, albeit anchored around a clear focus towards the transition to a low carbon global energy economy. The team has particular expertise in offshore and onshore wind, solar, hydrogen, alternative fuels and nuclear. Clients include a mix of investment funds, developers, state owned entities and more conventional utilities, as well as strategic long term relationships with some of the global energy giants. Additionally, with clients focused on decarbonisation and how to transition, this sector is at the forefront of the firm’s ESG activities, helping clients to achieve their climate goals, taking carbon out of their business models to transition to Net Zero. This exciting role is global in scope, with responsibility for client and business development in all markets. With line management responsibility for two Marketing & BD Managers and overseeing a Marketing Executive, you will work closely with the International Head of Energy and the sub-sector heads to deliver a three year strategy for growth and investment across the sector, including client, market and practice strategy. You will be a subject matter expert on the global capabilities of the firm within the sector and will be expected to take a leading role in identifying client and market trends. It will be your responsibility to deliver a clearly thought-through, actionable client and market plan and to work with lead Partners on structuring the firm’s service offering, products and marketing activities to engage clients globally, securing new mandates and developing existing client relationships. Supporting the globalisation of the firm’s client-base, the successful applicant will work with the Senior Client Development Manager to ensure sector growth through client acquisition and retention activities and will need to proactively manage a pipeline of pitch-related opportunities, helping make stop/go decisions and providing practical and strategic input into Energy pitches. In addition, the Global Marketing & Business Development Lead will identify and deliver campaigns and activities targeted to opportunities, leveraging a campaign-based approach, and will work with wider marketing teams to ensure activities have global appeal and relevance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience within the Energy sector gained whilst working in an international business environment, preferably in a professional services firm or one where there is an understanding of how legal services relate to clients in the sector, and will be able to demonstrate past success in applying a sound understanding of law firm economics to client and market strategy. The Global Marketing & Business Development Lead will also enjoy acting decisively in a fast-paced environment with a focus on delivery and outputs, and will possess strong influencing skills to drive behaviours and move prospects through the sales funnel.
