An award-winning international law firm is looking for an experienced business development professional to join their team in Birmingham to progress and implement the firm’s Government & Public Sector business development approach and activities. You will be responsible for working with the leadership of the Government & Public Sector team to drive, implement and measure business development strategies that deliver sustainable and profitable growth. You will work with sector and legal team leaders to support business development strategy, pipeline and activity in Commercial, Projects, Infrastructure and Health & Care. The Projects and Infrastructure element will also be likely to require taking a key role in relation to energy transition business development as part of the firm's wider growth strategy. The Senior Business Development Manager will enjoy a hands-on role requiring excellent people skills and a keen eye to identify and support commercial opportunities arising out of the firm's panel appointments and will have the chance to work with dynamic partners and lawyers in high profile areas of the firm. You will take the lead in the management of the sector within the wider BD team to ensure clear decision-making, excellent coordination and high levels of delivery and will work alongside BD department colleagues to ensure resources are managed effectively in order to achieve strategic objectives. Acting as a central knowledge resource for, and advocate of, the firm’s strategy and vision, you will monitor and drive the financial performance of the sector and clients and will work with sector and related legal team leaders on strategic business planning and budgeting. Monitoring client and market developments and identifying and tracking cross-selling opportunities for other sectors and legal teams, you will work with partners and other stakeholders to devise and execute new products and services. Taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of a number of existing key clients to protect and grow these relationships and acting as a client on-boarding champion for new clients, you will lead on the development of client strategy including client-focused growth, relationship management, client listening and feedback and new sales and targeting. The successful applicant will also work with the strategic bids team on major sector focused bids to bring sector knowledge to bear and with the corporate communications and digital teams to create consistent content and messages to raise the sector’s profile in the marketplace. A self-motivated and positive team player with a can-do approach and a strong ability to think strategically, to put plans into action and to prioritise and manage demanding deadlines, the ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and will enjoy dealing with and influencing senior people, particularly partners. It is essential that the Senior Business Development Manager can demonstrate a successful track record in business development within a professional services environment, to include previous experience of Financial Services sector business development.
