Senior Client & Business Development Manager, Commodities – Leading International Law Firm
Based in either London or Manchester, an international law firm with a strong global presence is seeking a commercially minded and strategically focused Senior Client & Business Development Manager to play a key role in driving client engagement, opportunity conversion and revenue growth across its global Commodities platform. Commodities is a core growth sector for the firm, offering an exciting opportunity to work with senior stakeholders and clients across an internationally recognised and highly regarded practice.
Working closely with the Commodities leadership team, sector partners and regional Business Development leads, the successful applicant will take a leading role in developing strategic client relationships and identifying and converting high-value opportunities. The role will focus particularly on priority commodities clients, including traders, producers, investors, logistics operators and state-linked entities, working in partnership with senior lawyers to develop account strategies, originate opportunities and ensure disciplined follow-up. The Senior Client & Business Development Manager will take ownership of client development activity and strategic account plans, ensuring resources and activity are focused on commercially realistic opportunities that support the wider sector strategy. You will drive pipeline management and opportunity conversion, ensuring opportunities are effectively qualified, tracked and progressed, while challenging unfocused activity and helping partners prioritise high-value and winnable opportunities. You will lead complex pitches, panels and proposals, facilitate senior-level client meetings, sector roadshows and engagement programmes, and identify opportunities to deepen relationships across practices and regions. The role will also involve monitoring outcomes and return on investment to ensure insight and learning are embedded into future client activity. The role holder will support the delivery of the global Commodities strategy by translating sector priorities into actionable Business Development plans, providing market, competitor and client insight, and shaping targeted client programmes and marketing initiatives aligned to live opportunities. You will also work closely with specialist teams across pitching, marketing, communications and client development to ensure a coordinated approach, while helping to ensure the firm's Commodities proposition, credentials and thought leadership are consistently communicated across its international network. In addition, as a senior member of the Business Development community, you will act as a trusted commercial adviser to partners, bringing strong market insight, commercial judgement and structured execution to help translate strategy into measurable results.
The ideal candidate will have significant senior level Business Development or Client Development experience gained within a professional services environment, ideally with exposure to the legal, commodities, infrastructure, energy, finance or related sectors. You will possess a strong understanding of commodities markets and the commercial drivers shaping the sector, alongside proven experience of leading complex client programmes, strategic pitches and multi-stakeholder initiatives. Highly commercially astute, the Senior Client & Business Development Manager will have the confidence and credibility to influence and challenge senior stakeholders, prioritise opportunities and drive activity towards tangible outcomes. Excellent relationship-building, communication and organisational skills will be essential, together with the ability to operate strategically while maintaining a hands-on and delivery-focused approach.
